What was the inspiration behind your track?
Shotgun is written from the perspective of a woman seeking revenge after finding out she is part of a love triangle. The entire song is a massive warning to the other two people in a relationship. She is angry because she has realised things are not what she thought however there is also pride in her independence, something I have tried to reflect in the lyrics.
What did your process involve?
When it came to writing Shotgun, it was generally a process based on improvisation. I was messing around with chord patterns and rhythms, once I had decided on these I improvised lyrics over the top based around the storyline that I had already thought out. It was a fairly simple process in all!
Is there a specific line that stands out in the song, and why?
My favourite line in the song is, “I’ve plans for you to get me through this fairly sweet dilemma”. I think this shows a twisted side to the character – describing the situation as sweet implies that she enjoys the concept of the revenge. It’s a fun line to sing as my band and I really emphasise it with our instrumental parts.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Classy and Sassy
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
Just having the opportunity to work alongside amazing musicians from different style backgrounds. Working with lots of different people has allowed me to expand on my knowledge of other genres and experiment with my writing.
