What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?

‘Break’ is about the conflicting emotions felt in a relationship when people are constantly trying to break it up. It’s about doubt and the pressures that modern-day life can have on how we maintain healthy relationships.

How did you approach writing this song?

Like a lot of our songs, ‘Break’ started with a main riff idea that Dan came up with. The rhythm section was then added and I later thought of the lyrics and melody. The whole feel of the track then changed when we took it into the studio; we created a darker sound and added synths and loads of backing vocals.

Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?

I think the breakdown into the double chorus is my favourite part of the song. The build into the chorus with a different vocal line gives the song more energy and it is really fun to perform live.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Riffy, alternative rock.

How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?

The sound of BADLAWS has definitely changed throughout our time at BIMM. Our songs are a lot heavier now and the use of backing tracks has helped us to make our set more professional and unique. The use of guitar pedals has also helped us to distinguish the BADLAWS sound.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

The best thing about studying at BIMM is the support we get from our peers. Having people who constantly come to our shows and share our tunes encourages us to keep doing what we’re doing.
