What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?
I don’t like to give too much away – I like the listener to be able to interpret and relate to the track in their own way! What I will say is that the inspiration for my lyrics came from being in a toxic relationship and stories from friends in similar situations.
How did you write this song?
I always write the lyrics first – they’re usually stories or poems – and then I create a structure. ‘Bones to Mind’ started as a story which I brought to the band and we worked on it together to create the music.
Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?
My favourite lyric would be “Bewitched with a body that sheds its skin”. This emphasises being in a relationship with someone who acts a certain way in front of others but behind closed doors they become their true self, which I refer to as snake-like behaviour.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
This is tough, as we’re still working on how we describe our sound, but something along the lines of: atmospheric, emotive and alternative.
How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?
If it wasn’t for BIMM, Avelina wouldn’t exist! Also, personally it’s helped my technique as a singer. As a band it’s taught us the fundamental ingredients of working together as a band and being creative as a group.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
The best thing about BIMM is 100% the people, and how everyone is there with the same passion for music, which is amazing! Also, you’re constantly involved in musical projects which challenge your creativity, which I really enjoy.
