We go Behind the Track with BIMM Brighton‘s, AMBR…
What was the inspiration behind your track?
I wrote the song after a challenging experience in a previous relationship. I felt it was something that a lot of my listeners could relate to and empathise with. Ultimately, like many musicians my outlet of letting go is writing so I decided to put my feelings down on paper and create a melody. As a musician I feel very lucky that I do have this outlet.
Does the track/lyrics have a story to it?
Absolutely! As it draws from my own experience I feel like it’s almost a narrative of how I felt at the time.
What was your songwriting process?
I had the idea of the chorus, both lyrically and melodically really early on. I then sent the chorus to one of my co writers asking if she wanted to work with me for this song. She was really excited about it and literally the next day I went over to her house and we wrote the track almost instantly. I decided to work with her on this track because I felt she could really help me with saying what I wanted to say and we work very well together in that way.
Do you enjoy playing it live?
It is a definite favourite amongst my new set and it always goes down really well. I had the privilege of performing ‘Sleeping In Your Bed’ with the house band at BIMM and that’s when the track first came alive as it hadn’t been produced at that point. I even ended up using two microphones to achieve all the effects I wanted! It was a lot of fun and totally different to anything I had ever done before.
