What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?

There is a story behind ‘Battles’. I was stuck fighting the thoughts in my head. After so much time spent inside my thoughts, I was almost completely depleted. My friends were the only source of light that really pushed me to re-find myself!

How did you approach writing this song?

I was at the lowest point I have ever felt in my life with my mental health about a year ago. I’ve been fighting with my depression for what felt like an eternity. Then Wakk Zilson (BIMM Bristol Alumnus) came to me with this track he had produced, and I instantly clicked to it! I chucked together 2 sets of lyrics that I had in my notebook on my phone and made them intertwine with each other. From there I removed certain words to help match the rhythm, and we were left with what I like to think are some of the most powerful words I’ve written to date.

Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?

“Looking for a time when I find out who I am” is one of my favourite lines from “Battles”, as for a lot of time at BIMM I really haven’t known who I am. The chorus will always be my favourite section of this song as I it really brings the message of the whole track together.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Energetic, Honest, Proud.

How do you feel your sound has developed from studying at BIMM?

My sound has changed somewhat over the past years of studying here at BIMM Bristol, I still play at acoustic nights but now I am branching out into all other genres of music. “Battles” is quite electronic and EDM, but I am now working to put together a full band. Right now my sound is my sound, I tell stories through my songs and I try to inspire where I can.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

I can honestly say the best thing about BIMM has been the people I have met. The talent that has come from this college is incredible and without the likes of them, BIMM really would not be possible. It’s a collective of students who form a crazy bond for life over a love for music!
