A Masterclass with Tony Iommi

6th June 2017

We recently announced the Tony Iommi Bursary & Scholarship, and as part of the launch we invited 20 prospective BIMM Birmingham Students to Spotlight Venue in Digbeth for a very special Q&A with the legendary Black Sabbath guitarist. We caught up with Rebecca Peace about the day…

What course are you joining us on?
BA (Hons) Professional Musicianship – Vocals

Did you travel far for the masterclass?
I’m fairly local. I took a short bus ride to get there.

What was the most inspiring part/favourite moment of the day?
Knowing that someone from the City you live in has become so successful and basically created a genre of music is very inspiring. It makes you realise that if you really want something bad enough you can achieve it!

Any advice you’re taking away from the Q&A sessions?
There was so much to take in from the session, so I can’t pin point one particular thing. The whole talk was very insightful. Lovely bloke!

This was obviously an opportunity to meet a Rock Icon, but are there any artists you hope to join us in the first year of BIMM Birmingham?
In my dreams it would be amazing to see the likes of Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber! But realistically (if it’s possible), I would love to see successful past students come to BIMM such as; James Bay and George Ezra. Also, Dan Kanter (Justin Bieber’s guitarist) is very talented.
