We caught up with BIMM Dublin graduate, Stephen D’Arcy and asked him about his decision to come to BIMM…
How did you get started?
I think I first got into drums around 13/14 years old and I remember being fascinated by drummers and the noise they got from their drums/cymbals. After that I found myself analysing drum parts and air drumming to songs until I got a kit.
Why did you choose BIMM Dublin?
I was finishing up a part time course in Music at another college and my tutors recommended I look into BIMM. I looked into it and really liked how hands-on it seemed to be in terms of performance and plugging into the music industry. At the time there was no BIMM in Ireland and I wasn’t in a position to move abroad so when I heard BIMM was opening in Dublin I applied straight away.
What was your highlight at BIMM?
There’s definitely been a few but probably getting to play with THUMPER in front of Bob Geldof for our graduation. That was a bit surreal.
What advice would you give to future BIMM Students?
Engage as much as you can. Go to classes, gigs, masterclasses, tutorials and anything else on. You’ll get to know people and make friends & connections the more you take part.
