Can you introduce yourself?
I am Oli Barton and I front the group, ‘Oli Barton & The Movement’ who consist of Ryan Wilson, Marco Paone, and Guy Monk. We are quite simply put, the greatest group since Showaddywaddy.
How did you get started?
I think I was in the bath and I suddenly whistled this killer tune to myself. Whilst I nurtured this wonderful creation and ensured that the entire song was perfectly written – consisting of 3 separate orchestral arrangements – Ed Sheeran had already nicked it, made several million and become the face of the NME.
Why did you choose BIMM London?
It simply had great teachers, great facilities, and a great reputation. Some serious artists have come from BIMM and it’s easy to see why. The teachers know how to nurture artists and they’re always about to answer all of my stupid questions!
What has been your highlight at BIMM?
Without a shadow of a doubt, working with the countless geniuses who helped put together my debut album. Everyone from Guy (our drummer) to Perry (our producer) were brought together by being at BIMM. I’m very lucky to have these guys.
What advice would you give to future students on your course?
Use the time wisely. Use every facility, nag every teacher, stay until 10pm every day and start at 9am the next day. Do it all.
