Who are you listening to at the moment?

At the moment I am listening to a lot of indie music but particularly an American band signed to Domino Recording Company called Night Moves. I was lucky enough to catch them playing live on their first UK tour at The Crofter’s Rights in Bristol which was a very special gig and so intimate! Honestly it was one of the best gigs I’ve seen this year, they’re so underrated and you need to check them out if you haven’t already. Check out their songs ‘Denise Don’t Wanna See You Cry’ and ‘Wondering How’ – although their whole second LP ‘Pennied Days’ is also stunning. I am also listening to Glass Animals, The Lemon Twigs, and Black Honey – all incredible bands live and on record!

What do you love about Bristol?

Bristol as a city for music is absolutely great; there are a range of venues and there is an eclectic music scene. I grew up in Bath, very near Bristol, so I have been brought up going to gigs there ever since I was young. My favourite venue is Thekla because it always showcases the best up and coming acts and it’s a boat which is so unique! The atmosphere is always great too. There are always new places to discover around Bristol which I love – every week I find something new. Bristol is definitely a city which is driven by its culture and especially music – it’s a perfect blend for me.

Why Music Industry Management?

I study Music Industry Management because the music industry has always fascinated me from a young age. I was brought up playing numerous instruments (violin and piano) and got into classical singing in operas and choirs. However I have always had a passion for contemporary music, especially live events and indie bands. Music Industry Management has provided me with the background knowledge to pursue a career in the modern music business, covering subjects such as Music Law, Artist Management, Live Events, and Studio Engineering. All the lecturers on my course are involved in the music business which is very inspiring and makes me all the more driven to get a career in the industry. I love networking with the relevant people and finding my own path to success. BIMM has provided me with the confidence to pursue a career in the music industry and the foundations to specialise in the area that interests me.
