Who are you listening to at the moment?

Right now I’m really into the band Flyte. Their debut album is coming out in August and I’m so excited! I’ve seen them live a few times now, and I think they’ve really got something going for them. I’m also enjoying the music of singer-songwriter Melanie Baker – she’s not got a huge following right now but her songs are so well written and easy to listen to that I don’t doubt she’ll do well for herself. I also think the soundtrack from the Netflix show ‘13 Reasons Why’ is fantastic. The show has caused some controversy but even if you didn’t like it I think you’d appreciate the music. It’s a great mix of artists and genres, plus some awesome covers and I’ve been listening to it practically non-stop.

What do you love about Bristol?

Bristol to me is just a great mix of everything. It’s really exciting and fun, and there’s a thriving art and music culture which makes being a student here so much more enjoyable. The scenery is beautiful too – I’ve lived near the harbour these past two years and it’s such a great view on the walk to uni which you don’t always get in other cities. I love how friendly everyone is and there is positivity everywhere you look. I’d recommend living in Bristol to everyone (plus there’s a cat pub here, what’s not to love about that?!).

Why Music Industry Management?

Originally I wanted to study Archaeology at Bristol University… quite a different area I know! But I soon realised that my interest in that subject wasn’t enough to justify a career in it, so I started thinking about what I really wanted. I’ve always had a passion for music and I am a classical musician myself but I was never quite talented enough to be the performer. However, I still wanted to be involved in the industry and I’d been sold on Bristol already – and after a quick Google search I found BIMM. The MIM course gave me exactly what I wanted, in the place I loved, and it kind of felt like fate. Being a MIM student is both academic and hands-on, plus you’re constantly networking and getting experience. It’s presented so many opportunities that I wouldn’t have gotten if I hadn’t have chosen BIMM, and I’m so grateful.
