BIMM Dublin’s Aoife Carton let’s us know her Who What Why’s.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I don’t know what I would do without Spotify. I change up my playlist at least once a week and it never falls under any one genre. At the moment it’s Foy Vance, Florence and the Machine and Julien Baker, along with a load of country music. Leonard Cohen is never missing from my playlists either, I listen to him every day.
What do you love about Dublin?
My favourite moment of the year, is Christmas Eve on Grafton Street. Where else would you find the country’s most talented musicians, playing a free gig when they could be celebrating Christmas with loved ones? I’m only a twenty minute bus ride from the City Centre. It’s so nice to pop into town, listen to buskers, shop, take photos and enjoy the atmosphere.
Songwriting is the only thing in my life that never fails to make me happy. If BIMM didn’t exist, I would have had to put songwriting second, as a hobby in the evening after doing college work. The prospect of getting up each day to study something that I will never tire of and then to go home and get to do even more, was just too exciting to let pass.
