What’s On in Dublin this September?

College is back and to help you settle in and mingle with your classmates as well as cure those end of festival season blues, here’s a list of some of the great gigs and events happening around the city this month…

Passenger – Vicar Street

Passenger returns to Vicar Street for a headline show on the 1st of September in support of his latest album ‘Runaway’. Support on the night comes from the awesome Lucy Rose and tickets are available from Ticketmaster.

12 Points Festival – The Sugar Club

Alternating between partner cities across Europe, 12 Points comes to Dublin this September from the 5th to the 8th. Celebrating young, up and coming artists in Jazz and experimental music across Europe, this Dublin edition of 12 Points will feature Dowry, Kompost 3, Mia Dyberg Trio and many more. The Sugar Club will host the 4 day festival and tickets are available from Eventbrite.

Screaming Females – The Grand Social

On the back of the release of their 7th album ‘All At Once’ this year, DIY punks, Screaming Females play the Grand Social on the 6th of September. Support on the night comes from Dublin based, experimental rock outfit, Alien She. Tickets are still available here, don’t miss out!

MNÁSOME LIVE – The Workman’s Club

Music blog MNÁSOME will host Elkae, Baba and Dreaming of Jupiter in The Workman’s Club on Thursday 13th September for MNÁSOME LIVE. Pre Sale tickets are just €7.50 plus booking fee and €10 on the door or €8 for BIMM students with a valid student card and Garda ID. Anyone wearing a MNÁSOME t shirt can also avail of a 20% discount. Black Jam: Cure – The Complex

Fried Plantains Collective present a night of spoken word, hip hop and African and Irish punk and funk music in the form of Black Jam: Cure on the 15th of September. The night will feature as part of the 2018 edition of the Dublin Fringe Festival. Performing on the night will be poet, Raven, MC freestyle rapper MAI, Niamh Beirne of Dublin collective PETTY CASH and BlackFish Collective. Further details can be found here.

Tank and the Bangas – The Sugar Club

American funk-soul group, Tank and the Bangas play The Sugar Club on the 18th of September. Formed at an open mic in New Orleans in 2011, Tank and the Bangas perform a unique mix of Soul, R&B, Hip Hop and Spoken Word. Originally scheduled for Vicar Street, tickets bought before the venue change are still valid and there are some tickets still available from The Sugar Club website.

Jason Derulo – 3 Arena

Jason Derulo drops by the 3 Arena on the 19th of September as part of his UK and Ireland arena tour. Special guests performing on the night are Calum Scott and LZ7. Get your tickets here for what is sure to be an awesome show!

Halestorm – The Academy

If pop music isn’t your thing, also performing to a sold out Academy on the 19th are American rockers, Halestorm. Following the release of their fourth album, ‘VICIOUS’, Halestorm embark on their biggest tour of the UK, Ireland and Europe to date.

Mitski – The Tivoli Theatre

Indie Rock Singer-Songwriter, Mitski will perform at the Tivoli Theatre on the 22nd of September as part of her European tour in support of her latest album ‘Be the Cowboy’. Special guest on the night is Eera and tickets are available here.

Wax On #8 Billie Holiday – The Workman’s Club

The September instalment of Wax On will focus on the life and career of the sensational Billie Holiday. The event will take place in the Vintage Rooms upstairs in the Workman’s Club on the 26th of September. Tickets are available for €10 here or €12 on the door.

Julien Baker – Vicar Street

Touring in support of her latest album, ‘Turn Out The Lights’, the formidable Julien Baker headlines Vicar Street on the 29th of September. Get your tickets for what is sure to be an astounding display of authentic songwriting talent here.

Josuha Radin & William Fitzsimmon – Whelan’s

Seeing out the month are singer songwriters, Joshua Radin and William Fitzsimmon. Both will perform at Whelan’s for a double bill show on the 30th of September. A stop on a tour which is a long awaited return to the live circuit for Fitzsimmons, this is sure to be a special performance. To witness it, get your tickets here before they’re gone!

Sinéad graduated as a Vocalist from the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music at BIMM Dublin in 2015. Since then, she has been working in the music industry in administration, social media and marketing.
