What’s On in Dublin – October

The new academic year is well and truly underway and in a city teeming with culture like Dublin, inspiration for your next hit is never too far away. Here’s some of the goings on October has to bring to keep you in the loop and your creativity flowing…

30th September – 14th October
Dublin Podcast Festival

The Dublin Podcast Festival continues until the 14th of October with events taking place across a number of venues in the city centre. From comedy and conspiracy to Irish history and social issues, all bases are covered. More details and tickets available here.

2nd October
Toshín Single Launch
Whelan’s

Toshín launch their latest singles ‘Boy Listen’ and ‘We Don’t Share Blood’ upstairs in Whelan’s on the 2nd of October. Support on the night comes from Bobby and The Blunts and ReGroovanation. Pre sale tickets are available for €5 plus booking fee or €7 on the door.

6th – 7th October
J Con
Croke Park

J Con returns to Croke Park for their second annual convention and promises to be “Ireland’s funnest anime, manga, cosplay and all things J Culture event.” J Con will include special guests, panel discussions and a few wacky events too! 11th October
Saint Sister
Olympia Theatre

Saint Sister bring their beautiful ‘atmosfolk’ sounds to The Olympia Theatre this month. The show will be the first of six Irish dates on their current ‘Shape of Silence’ tour. Get tickets to catch their enchanting live show here.

14th October
Tom Odell
Olympia Theatre

BIMM Brighton alumnus Tom Odell plays Dublin in support of his latest album ‘Jubilee Road’ as part of a UK and European tour this month. The show will take place in The Olympia Theatre and those lucky enough to have bagged tickets will probably already know that it’s now completely sold out.

16th October
Editors
Vicar St

On the back of the release of their sixth album, ‘Violence’ earlier this year, Editors play Vicar St this October with special guest, Cork based musician, Talos. Tickets are still available for what is sure to be a night of dynamic and enthralling performances.

17th October
Dream Wife
Whelan’s

UK feminist punk outfit Dream Wife hit the main venue in Whelan’s on their return to Ireland after their performance in Energia Park earlier this year. Their high energy live shows are not to be missed so get your tickets before they’re gone!

18th October
Superorganism

The Academy

US/UK based indie electronic band  Superorganism are one of the most diverse and interesting acts around at the moment. Who else can count buckets of water and cans of soft-drinks among their onstage instrumentation. They’re arguably the most ‘hipster’ thing to happen to music since the un-ironic moustache came back into fashion. The band come to The Academy as part of their current tour of Europe on the back of their self titled debut album released this year. Tickets are still available here but be quick because this is sure to sell out.

23rd October
Grace Carter
The Sugar Club

Up and coming R n B act Grace Carter headlines the Sugar Club this month ahead of the release of her debut EP ‘Saving Grace’. She recently toured with Dua Lipa, Mabel and Rag N Bone Man across the UK and Europe and sold out her own debut solo show. Get tickets here to witness her show first-hand in this intimate setting.

23rd October
The Roller Trio
Whelan’s

Hailed as “the new sound of UK Jazz” – Mercury Award Nominated Roller Trio are coming to Whelan’s. Expect plenty of punchy grooves, high octane technicality, deceptively catchy riffs and swirling electronica. Get your tickets here. 

27th – 28th October
Metropolis Festival
RDS

Metropolis returns to the RDS for it’s fourth year with Villagers, Roisin Murphy, Kojaque, Gwenno and lots more in music as well as conferences across the two day festival. Tickets are still available and they now operate a strict over 21’s policy.

29th October
Chemical Brothers
3 Arena

The Chemical Brothers make their long anticipated return to Dublin at the end of the month. The duo will be bringing their mind bending, hypnotic live show to the 3 Arena with special guests Stephen Bodzin and James Holroyd.

30th October
Heels of Hell
Vicar St

Round up this month’s festivities with a Halloween themed drag show, Heels of Hell in Vicar St. The night will feature stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race with support from the Holy Trannity and Dragged Up drag queens. Get your tickets here for what is sure to be a spectacularly fun night. Don’t forget your lipstick and heels!
