As ever, February is another jam-packed month of gigs in our wonderful city of Birmingham. To help you in your quest to find the best things to do, here are some of the best and coolest live music events happening this month, hand picked by Counteract‘s Richard Franks. 

 

Kaleidoscope: Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam, The Lizards & Nova
The Night Owl, 1st February

Kaleidoscope launches its monthly music and arts night at The Night Owl on Thursday 1st February with three great local bands, and what’s more, it’s free entry!

 

Kendrick Lamar 
Genting Arena, 9th February

Seven-time Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar brings his critically acclaimed record, DAMN., to Birmingham on Friday 9th February. Expect hits from the Compton rapper’s back catalogue including ‘m.A.A.d city’, ‘King Kunta’, ‘Humble’ and ‘DNA’.

 

 

Victories at Sea, Hoopla Blue and more
Hare & Hounds, 10th February

Heavyweight hip promoters This Is Tmrw present an all dayer of grandiose stature with the likes of Victories at Sea, Hoopla Blue, Matters and Outlander forming a mighty impressive lineup. Check out the event and pick up tickets here.

 

Alien Ant Farm
O2 Institute, 12th February

Annie are you okay? Alien Ant Farm take to the stage at our neighbourhood venue the O2 Institute on 12th February! Support comes from Soil and Local H, so you won’t want to miss this one.

 
 
 
 

The Blinders
The Sunflower Lounge, 16th February

Championed by This Feeling as one of the most impressive live talents in the UK right now, The Blinders are off on another tour of the UK this month. Don’t miss their explosive show with support from two local bands, Paper Buoys and The Clause.

 

Cabbage
The Castle & Falcon, 17th February


Idiosyncratic, neo-punk, Mancunian quartet Cabbage are back in Brum midway through the month, this time at the intimate Castle & Falcon in Balsall Heath. Expect an energetic night as they plough through their back catalogue of social-commentary led, politically-inspired rants.

 
 
 

Youth Man
Actress & Bishop, 17th February

One of the most ferocious live bands to come out of Birmingham in recent memory play a headline show at the Actress & Bishop in the Jewellery Quarter on 17th February. This co-headline tour with Cassels is sure to turn a few heads – make one of those heads yours.

 

The Orielles
Hare & Hounds, 18th February

Heavenly Recordings favourites The Orielles come to Birmingham on the 18th, in another This Is Tmrw presentation. Support on the night comes from locals Nonsuch and Flamingo Flame, making this one of the most impressive bills of the month!

 

 

 

Franz Ferdinand
O2 Academy, 20th February

Scottish indie kings Franz Ferdinand are back with new album “Always Ascending” and play the O2 Academy on 20th February. Support comes from another indie king in his own right, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr., who Counteract spoke to the last time he played in the city.

 

Wiley
O2 Institute, 22nd February

Godfather of grime and recent MBE recipient, Wiley, brings his latest LP, Godfather II, to the O2 Institute on 22nd Feb. Expect to hear some of his newest tracks as well as anthems like ‘Heatwave’.

 

 

 

Imagine Dragons
Genting Arena, 24th February

Epic rock outfit Imagine Dragons bring their anthemic back catalogue to the Genting Arena this month. Expect nothing short of an unmissable show.

 

Morrissey
Genting Arena, 27th February

Last but not least, former frontman of The Smiths arrives in Birmingham on 27th February to showcase his latest LP, Low in High School. He might even play a few Smiths tracks too.
