As ever, Birmingham is jam-packed full of wonderful events this month. Here’s our pick of the best – featuring anything from music and theatre to quizzes and film!

Loyle Carner – O2 Institute, Tues 3rd

Mercury Prize nominated hip hop artist Loyle Carner comes to Digbeth’s O2 Institute at the start of the month on his biggest UK tour to date. Expect to hear tracks from his critically-acclaimed debut “Yesterday’s Gone”.

Independent Birmingham’s Stranger Things quiz – Spotlight, Thurs 5th

Everyone’s favourite indie purveyors return with another quiz – this time with a Stranger Things theme! Head down to Spotlight on Thursday 5th October and pick up your tickets HERE.

Digbeth Oktoberfest – The Old Crown, Sep 29 + 30 & Oct 6 + 7

Digbeth’s first Oktoberfest comes to The Old Crown this month for a Bavarian knees-up! Expect beer steins, German street food and a jolly singalong. Tickets are available HERE.

Inheaven – The Sunflower Lounge, Mon 9th

It’s a stellar showcase of new music at The Sunflower Lounge on 9th October with South East London’s Inheaven bringing their new record to Birmingham. Ireland’s Otherkin and Liverpool’s Paris Youth Foundation provide support on the night. Tickets available HERE. But be quick!

Cilla The Musical – New Alexandra Theatre, Tues 10th – Saturday 14th

Relive the story of one of Liverpool’s most famous daughters, Cilla Black, as this brand-new musical comes to Birmingham! The adaptation of the popular ITV series shows the late Cilla from her early job in the Cavern Club and relationship with The Beatles through to eventual stardom. Tickets available HERE.

Superfood – Mama Roux’s, Weds 11th

Birmingham buzz band Superfood are back with their sophomore record and head to Digbeths Mama Roux’s on the 11th for what’s set to be a memorable hometown show. Support comes from the wonderful Ivory Wave. Tickets available HERE.

The Cosmics – The Sunflower Lounge, Fri 20th

Recent Glastonbury and Reading Festival garage-rock starlets The Cosmics return to their hometown for a headline show at the recently renovated Sunflower Lounge – be there!

All Years Leaving Festival – Hare & Hounds, Sat 21st + Sun 22nd

This Is Tmrw are back with another effortlessly cool line-up for the annual All Years Leaving festival at the Hare & Hounds. Headliners this time include Spring King, Idles & Traams, with the likes of Diet Cig, Pins Hers & Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam also playing. Saturday tickets HERE. Sunday tickets HERE.

Black International Film Festival – Mockingbird Cinema, Mon 23rd + Thurs 26th

Our neighbours the Mockingbird Cinema & Theatre will be celebrating the best in black culture and diversity by showcasing a series of short films and features on Monday 23rd and Thursday 26th. More information can be found HERE.

The Horrors – O2 Institute, Tues 24th

Faris Badwan and co. are back and they play their first Birmingham show in a while at the O2 Institute on Tuesday 24th. Expect to hear all the hits from their back catalogue as well as a few new ones too. Tickets available HERE.

Kioko – O2 Academy, Thurs 26th

Birmingham’s loveable reggae/pop troubadours Kioko play their biggest hometown headline show to date at O2 Academy2 this month too – do NOT miss this! Tickets available HERE.

Metallica – Genting Arena, Mon 30th

Finally, metal giants Metallica are in the city on Monday 30th, as part of the European leg of their WorldWired tour! Fans can revel in the likes of ‘Enter Sandman’ while at the same time hearing tracks from their latest album “Hardwired… To Self-destruct”. Tickets available HERE.
