After much anticipation and lots of preparation, the first term at BIMM Birmingham is finally upon us! Before all you lovely new students get stuck into your courses though, there’s the small matter of Freshers Week to address. Here, we’ve compiled a list of events at various venues around the city. We suggest familiarising yourselves with what’s happening so that you can get the best possible start to your time here at BIMM. Enjoy!
Thursday 28th September
Official BIMM Induction Event
This is your official welcome to BIMM Birmingham, featuring talks from College Principle Antony Greaves, Executive Principle Dara Kilkenny and Songwriting tutor Bruce Carter. Course details and career-paths will be outlined with a talk from the head of education before a live performance workshop from BIMM Manchester’s house band.
There’ll be more live music from Psyche-rock trio Crimsons and industry talks with Radio 1’s Daniel P Carter and multi-platinum-selling super producer Steve Osbourne. Make sure you don’t miss this brilliant introduction to life at BIMM at one of Birmingham’s best music venues.

The BIMM After Show Party
During the official after-party, we’ll have the excellent psychedelic rockers Crimsons performing live once again to make sure your welcome is completed with bang! Afterwards, the Manchester lads will hit the decks for a DJ set of stone-cold indie rock classics. And, should you get a little peckish from all the dancing, there are plenty of spots around the Digbeth area to grab some tasty food. Kanteen have an offer for 25% off with a leaflet in your welcome packs, or you can head to Mother Clucker or Digbeth Kitchen. Your welcome packs will also include Gold Cards for free entry to Digbeth Dining Club events on Fridays and Saturdays!

Where else are you going to sing your heart out every Thursday? Go down to Walkabout for free entry, free giveaways and tonnes of karaoke. So, not only can you come down and sing (or just join in with the party) you’ll get a free drink with every song you do!

The Sunflower Lounge
The Sunflower Lounge is one of the city’s best small venues and Harts are an alt rock band fusing elements of grunge and punk. Forming in early 2016, they have been gigging extensively, releasing their latest single ‘Hate Machine’ last April. Official event page HERE.
Friday 29th September
BIMM Institute Birmingham
Come on over to the BIMM campus to check out a bunch of musical, health and well-being practices, along with an opportunity to mingle with your fellow students and perhaps even bag yourself some freebies!

Digbeth Dining Club
Students will have Gold Cards issued to them at the BIMM Welcome ceremony. Digbeth Dining Club is the multi award winning street food event that has become a hit in Birmingham and leading the alternative food scene.

The Old Crown
A full Bavarian takeover just around the corner from your campus. Over two weekends in September and October the Old Crown’s beer garden will be transformed into into a covered German beer hall with traditional bench seating for up to 350 guests a night. This is a true Oktoberfest celebration complete with huge steins, Bavarian larger, German games, authentic German food street food, and live music.

Open Mic Sunday Sessions
Dandy with an acoustic guitar or just fancy the charming and subtle tones of one? The Sunday Sessions could be for you. Boasting over three hours’ worth of the finest local acoustic extraordinaires, The Flapper promise a great chilled out alternative to your Sunday evenings in Birmingham, and it’s free!
Saint PHNX supported Las Vegas titans Imagine Dragons at their London show the legendary Roundhouse recently. The band also joined Catfish & The Bottlemen and The Wombats at Community Festival in Finsbury Park earlier this month.
The band’s latest track ‘King’ has surpassed 7 million streams on Spotify, and was recently featured on the Rock This Spotify playlist. Official event page HERE.
Monday 2nd October
Neighbourhood is about creating a network of local musicians in the city of Birmingham, creating an environment in which progressive urban music can develop, community can be grown and a generous/collaborative culture can be nurtured.
That said, if you’re not a performer, this night is already gaining monentum and attracting an incredibly high level of musicianship and artistry so turn up expecting a truely exciting and spectacular show! Free/Donations
