Just in case you needed a little encouragement, we have been on chatting with students past and present to give you guys a little love and assistance on your musical journeys.

Here is Bevin King talking about how BIMM has helped her…

WHAT DIFFERENCE HAS BIMM MADE TO YOUR CAREER?

BIMM led me to meet an amazing group of musicians on the same wavelength who support and inspire each other, that has been the best thing!
It also gave me the chance to explore a lot of different areas of the music industry. I had the opportunity to work as an A&R scout while I was at BIMM and learnt a lot about music business, leading to some work with record labels since I’ve graduated. I hadn’t considered that kind of work before BIMM but have ended up really enjoying it.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE/PLAY MUSIC?

As a drummer, the most inspiring thing is definitely jamming with a band. Hearing someone play an idea that sounds really exciting and working it into a song together is the best part. Just being very open to new sounds can be inspiring too. Listening to a really diverse range of music, watching a lot of Tiny Desk concerts and experimenting with instruments that I can’t actually play. Drumming also feels like an instinct – it can be like a meditation to play without any goal in mind, and sometimes that approach leads to the best ideas.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR NEW AND FUTURE STUDENTS?

Don’t get too worried about having perfect technique or compare yourself to anyone else, it’s a waste of time… creativity, persistence and being a dependable and friendly person to work with are just as important!
