BIMM Live 2018: Simon Brody

7th June 2018

Describe your sound in 5 words.

Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter/Folk/Hip-Hop. I think…

What’s been your career highlight so far?

Probably playing in a renovated church in Loughrea, to a room full of poets and songwriters. I’m used to playing cover gigs; so having people paying attention to my lyrics was overwhelming!

Who are you most looking forward to seeing at BIMM Live?

Do I just get to pick one? That’s not fair. So I’m looking forward to seeing John McCabe, Jack-Rufus Kelly playing bass for like 6 bands! Derek Ellard, Arcwords, Dale Malone, Laura Ryder, Hannah McKenna, Peppy, Lucas Ortega, Future Family, Matilda, Saoirse, Maria Kelly and of course Aimie Mallon’s DJ set. That was as many as I could remember off the top of my head.

What can people expect from your BIMM Live set?

Well I’m first on so I’m not going to do anything crazy or launch any fireworks, but do expect vibey/funky acoustic music with a hip-hop fusion every now and then.

What’s the best piece of advice you have learnt from BIMM?

You won’t get anything unless you ask for it so put yourself out there.

What’s next for the band/you?

I’m going to keep songwriting and gigging and see where it takes me,  I’ve also got plans to travel. I’m also looking at doing a Masters in music therapy, I’m keeping my options open for now anyway.
