Festival season is in full swing and as always, talented BIMM students and graduates can be found on line-ups with some of the best in the industry! Here’s a list of some Irish festivals you should catch and BIMM acts you definitely don’t want to miss…
Sea Sessions 22nd – 24th of June
Sea Sessions Surf and Music Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in Bundoran, Co. Donegal this weekend. Dizzee Rascal, Walking on Cars, Delorentos and Rudimental will all grace the seaside stages, as will current and past students, Chasing Abbey, Thumper, Vernon Jane, and Molly Sterling.
Body & Soul 22nd – 24th June
Celebrate the Summer Solstice at Body & Soul in the beautiful Ballinlough Castle grounds in Westmeath. Body & Soul, which describes itself as “a celebration of life, diversity, music, culture and the arts” is an environmentally conscious festival with workshops and a focus on wellbeing. The festival also includes great music from emerging acts each year. BIMM acts playing this year include, Vernon Jane, LAOISE, Joey Gavin, Leila Jane & The Healers, S E N U, LE BOOM, DAY_S, Fontaines D.C. Erica-Cody, Xo Mo, Mix & Fairbanks, Anna-Mieke and Search Party Animal. Phew!
BARE Festival 6th & 7th July
A small festival taking place in Borris House, Co. Carlow, BARE Music & Arts Festival will play host to some great Irish and international acts this year. From Kíla to God is an Astronaut, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. BIMM acts on the line up include Xo Mo and Jet Fuel Chemistry.
Groove Festival 7th & 8th July
Groove Festival returns to Kilruddery House and Gardens in Bray Co. Wicklow this July for its 6th year. A friendly and fun festival, there’s something for everyone with outdoor activities, food stalls and a diverse line up of music. This year features, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, The Stunning, Ham Sandwich and Kíla; as well as super talented graduates, Fallen Lights.
Longitude 13th – 15th July
If you’re not a fan of camping, Longitude has your back. J Cole, Solange, Sigrid and Tyler the Creator are all set to play over the three day festival in Marlay Park this year. Longitude also hosts a lot of local and emerging acts. This year includes current and past students, DAY_S, Jafaris, LAOISE, Erica-Cody and LE BOOM.
Knockanstockan 28th – 29th July
Back after a short hiatus, Knockanstockan 2018 will bring the best in up and coming Irish artists to the Blessington Lakes in Co. Wicklow this July. Among them, a diverse representation of genres from student and graduate bands, including Bicurious, Farah Elle, Moon looks on, MUNKY, Vernon Jane, Anna-Mieke, Wastefellow, Megacone, This Fresh Hell, For Foresters, Orchid Collective, Just Mustard, Joey Gavin, This Place Hell, S E N U, Search Party Animal and The Murder Capital.
Indiependence 3rd – 5th August
Taking place in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork over the August Bank Holiday, Indiependence Music & Arts Festival offers an exciting weekend of music. Headliners across the weekend are Primal Scream, Jake Bugg and Walking On Cars and not to forget a healthy dose of performances from BIMM acts, Brass Phantoms, Erica-Cody, DAY_S, Fontaines D.C. and LE BOOM.
Castlepalooza 3rd – 5th August
If it’s your first time going to a festival then Castlepalooza is a great place to start. It’s small, which means it’s easy to navigate and has a friendly community vibe. Regardless of its size, Castlepalooza is set to host a stellar line up again this year featuring All Tvvins, Heroes in Hiding, New Jackson, the Rubberbandits and Choice Music Prize winners Ships. The immensely talented BIMM acts playing alongside them include, Baba, Fontaines D.C., King Bones, Mix & Fairbanks, Thumper, Girlfriend and Molly Sterling.
All Together Now 3rd – 5th August
Entertainment is most definitely not in short supply this August Bank Holiday weekend with All Together Now joining the ranks as they embark on their maiden voyage. Curraghmore House in Co. Waterford will see entertainment ranging from music to spoken word, comedy to theatre, along with art and workshops to enjoy. The festival offers an epic first line up with Fleet Foxes, First Aid Kit, Nils Frahm and Villagers making appearances. Joining them will be wonderfully talented BIMM graduates, Maria Kelly and AE Mak.
Electric Picnic 31st August – 2nd September
Ireland’s largest festival Electric Picnic has gone from strength to strength over the years. With another amazing line up, it’s no wonder the festival has sold out yet again! Kendrick Lamar, N*E*R*D, Massive Attack, Dua Lipa and St. Vincent will all grace the stages in Stradbally this September, as will sensational BIMM acts, Baba and Erica-Cody.
