BIMM Dublin’s Thumper go Behind the Track on their latest single ‘The Loser’

What was the inspiration behind your track?

It’s about the small spell of self loathing that can come with falling in love with someone.

What did your songwriting process involve?

The thing that took the longest with this song was arranging where all the melodies sat. We played around for ages with different instruments ,taking different parts. Eventually we decided on the bass and kick playing the vocal melody in the verses, with the guitars covering the chords and root notes, then they swap in the chorus. Fun!

Is there are story behind the song?

I recorded it all in one day in my old rehearsal room and was so embarrassed by the stupid lyrics that I did one take, in case anyone outside could hear me. I also never mixed it – the mix we released is just what was left after the few hours of recording.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Catchy, sonic, skree.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

Being surrounded by people who are better than you!
