What was the inspiration behind your track?

‘Around the Sun’ is a mixture between Kings of Leon and Catfish and the Botttlemen, with a little hint of old school Elvis thrown in there as well! I have also taken inspiration from up and coming bands too, such as VANT, The Hunna, and Sundara Karma. I like to get a little bit of inspiration from everywhere I can even if it doesn’t affect the sound drastically… I think it’s definitely worth trying.

What did your songwriting process involve?

It had been ages since I had started a song with a chorus and this was something I really wanted to try again. Once I added the stabbing style chords and threw a capo on 5th, the rest of the song came pretty quickly. I tend to write a song, record it on my phone, and listen to it the next day. ‘Around the Sun’ really stuck in my head, so I knew it had to be the new single.

Is there are story behind the song?

The story behind the song is the feeling you have when you’re on a sunny holiday and anything you have to worry about can wait till you get home. It’s about being young and having a good time before all the serious stuff comes along.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Energetic. Catchy. Indie

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

It’s great how all of the tutors are still in the industry. In a game where everything changes so fast and frequently, it’s comforting to know that you’re getting it up to date. Also mixing with musicians from all sorts of genres is so refreshing!
