BIMM Dublin’s Brass Phantoms go behind the track with ‘Waiting Up’

What was the inspiration behind your track?

The song is inspired by the darker side of society. We formed the idea for the song from so many things, even re-watching Trainspotting around a year ago!

What did your songwriting process involve?

The song started with its bass line and was built up from there. The way it sounded in the demo is completely different to how it ended up sounding in its final form because we all added so much to it before recording. All of the musical additions in Waiting Up took it to a different level from the original demo.

Is there are story behind the song?

There is an element of story behind the track, but for us we feel the most important thing is for the listener to create their own interpretation.

We hope lyrically the song is open to interpretation and relatable.

Can you describe your sound in three words?

Dark, Abrasive, Joyous.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

I think the best part about BIMM has been meeting all of the lectures and students. It’s an amazing experience for a musician to be put into a space with like minded people for a few years.

I couldn’t thank the staff and lectures of BIMM enough!
