What was the inspiration/is there a story behind your track?
Since most of the tracks we had written previously were quite slow, we were set on writing something more up-tempo. I’m a big believer in letting the subconscious guide what a song means to me and quite often I only realise the meaning halfway through or when I’m finished. With ‘Fading’ I had an idea what it was about but I didn’t understand the song as a whole until after talking with a graphic designer about what we wanted to do with visuals for our upcoming EP. To me, the song symbolises the duality in a person and a conversation between those two opposing sides.
What did your process involve?
We started with the arp synth and then came up with a chord structure. We layered in the guitars and by the time we had to write a chorus everything had fallen into place on its own. It was probably one of the easiest songs to write from the upcoming EP.
Do you have a favourite line/section of the song?
“I’ve been dreaming for a while it’s time to wake up, but when I look into the light I’m paralysed and blind.”
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Melancholic, eclectic, atmospheric.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?”
The masterclasses and the time we spent in the BIMM and Chestnuts studios.
